Youtube can be another great resource for transgender people to share their story and their journey. As well as general information about transgender people. There is no specific order of importance or favor.
https://www.youtube.com/user/ContraPoints – Contrapoints is a 31-year-old transgender woman who talks about the more philosophical or social ideas of transitioning and general trans topics. I really enjoy her and her content, but she has had some drama with the non-binary community in the past. If you are uncomfortable with that, then you probably shouldn’t watch her. These are some of my personal favorites:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtj7LDYaufM – She talks about comedians referring to trans people and the darkness of humor.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pTPuoGjQsI – She talks about the gender-critical movement and how and why it’s transphobic and wrong.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bbINLWtMKI – She talks about pronouns and why we use them, about trans people.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHSIA2JRC5PWvUX4Sl8OrcA – Jamie is a 25-year-old trans guy who has been transitioning for about 8 years now. He has had bottom and top surgery and talks about his journey as a trans man, his love life with his girlfriend, and his overall life. Some videos are on the topic of being trans, and others are not. I have not really watched many of his videos, but the ones that I have watched I have very much enjoyed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qiHvkgiquM – Aria Bennett is a trans woman who often talks about the more medical side of HRT. This is an overall video of what HRT is, what it is trying to do, and what it does in the body. She also does a video about the different routes of administration of MTF HRT, which is linked below
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MitqjSYtwrQ – AsapSCIENCE did a video with Gigi gorgeous, a transgender YouTuber, about the science of being transgender. It’s a very basic video that’s only 4 minutes long. However, it can be a good introduction for people that don’t know anything or very little about transgender people.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCxqdhZkxCo – Philosophy tube is a philosophy channel that, as the name states, talks a lot about philosophy. They did a video on transgender and transphobia, which is pretty great. I would recommend watching it if you haven’t already.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CquRz_cceH8 – Crashcourse is a youtube channel that gives short lessons about a specific topic. They do everything from history lessons to sociology lessons. In one of their sociology lessons, they talk about some of the theories of gender and how they affect us. It’s not really talking about transgender people but more so talking about gender in general, which is just as important.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yz-LPH0EAM – UCLA health does many videos on more of the medical side and the treatment of transgender people. They have videos on HRT, different types of gender-affirming surgeries, and transgender voice-related things that I will link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwEu_iwNCq0&t=899s – Talking about the surgical process and the considerations a patient should take in regarding a Vaginoplasty. (Vagionoplasty meaning the surgical construction of a vagina)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De3Iytw05TA&t=790s – Talking about the surgical process and the outcomes of a gender-affirming orchiectomy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rc7bx2xQ8jI&t=1s – This is a video that talks about medications and the social relation of your gender transition. It has a lot of the same material that the first video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZR5OFfdEWI – Talking about the importance of social support in regards to your gender transition
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fefu33e8O-0 – Dr.Powers, a person I mentioned before, talks about his HRT method in this video. It is nontraditional; however, I personally think it has a lot of good information in it.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBYlEnfAUbrYSwF0VujcmHA – This is a great resource for anyone who is trying to change their voice. She specifically talks about trans women and voice feminization with the science behind it and some different methods and techniques.
Resources that I personally have found helpful with vocal feminization are below.
An important footnote, it is always preferable to have a professional vocal trainer to help you. You can get good or feminine results from voice training by yourself; however, you can easily train wrongly and end up hurting your voice or your vocal progress by doing so. If you have the resources and the ability to get a vocal coach, I would highly recommend it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCCnv9dWM0A – Riley J. Dennis talks largely about transgender-related things like sexuality, gender as a whole, and social justice such a BLM. She also posts video essays about TV shows if that is something that you are interested in. NSFW warning since she does do sex toy-related content.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJSa4HPQ3DDPeXE22Bdwmmw – Dr. Sidnhb Gallagher is a double board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in aesthetic and gender affirmation surgery based in Miami, Florida. She does youtube videos regarding surgeries for transgender people with information, post-op care, dilation, and what to expect. She is an excellent resource and has a lot of good information up on her youtube channel. Here are some of her videos that I would suggest you watch if you’re interested in information on gender-affirming surgeries:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRj7HXvKV3AXGTbGeOX5Wzw – UppersaseCHATE1 is a transgender man who frequently talks about transgender-related topics, even having a podcast with another trans male where that is the main topic. On his youtube channel, he has a series titled transgender 101, where he goes over some basic ideas of what being transgender is or how you start HRT. Then moves up to more complex topics. His content is targeted mostly at trans men since he himself is a trans man, but he does talk about non-binary people and trans women. His channel has a lot of good information if you are a trans guy or someone trying to learn more about trans related topics. NSFW warning since he does do sex toy reviews as well.
